Townsville on a Budget
I love travelling….. who doesn’t? If I had struck the $150 million, you’d find me far, far, away in a tropical paradise! But no such luck, however after my close friend Yarna moved up to Townsville, I discovered that my ideal tropical holiday could be right around the corner!
So, how does
tropical holiday and ‘on a budget’ work… you might ask? Well having a friend
who’s moved there really helps but if you’re not as lucky as me, here’s’ a few
useful tips in having a budget friendly fun trip to Townsville….
1 1. Strand Rock pools
The Rock Pools
are a must, you can have the beautiful ocean view whilst swimming in salt
water minus the annoying sand! The Strand Rock Pools have beautiful grassy spots
to lounge around all day! I packed my picnic lunch and all time fave snack - vege
chips that day, but there’s loads of cafe's to check out if you are still
hungry!
2. Hike
up Castle Hill
Not a walk
for the faint hearted, Castle Hill is a challenge but the view is surely worth
it! We did the climb
in the afternoon and got to the top just as the sun set! Stunning views! Be
sure to pack a hat, water and snacks for the top!
3 3.Explore Maggie Island in style
We took a
quick 20 minute ferry to the magical Magnetic island, where we hired a pink mini mote and split the
fare between the 3 of us, which made it only $30 each for the day! Be sure to
pack a Bluetooth speaker though, these Barbie cars don’t come equipped with a
stereo, music is half the fun of road trips, am I right? A highlight of Maggie island was certainly feeding
the Rock Wallabies – so make sure you pack some extra fruit for these little fellas ! Alternatively,
if it’s a bit expensive getting a mote on your own, there are bus services around the
island too but do try to drag your friends along – the motes take 4 people!
I hope these
ideas have got you thinking about having a fun tropical holiday away in Townsville.
Jamie.
