MY WEEKLY FITNESS ROUTINE
Since I had a lot of positive responses to my Getting Fit on Just a Few Dollars post, I wanted to share my weekly fitness routine too. I try to do something active EVERY day, therefore I use fitness activities that don’t take hours but are extremely effective! This includes a gym session at home, doing some high energy dance exercises, attending a HIIT class or going to yoga.
What I do each week:
HIIT (1
time a week)
As I have mentioned in a previous blog post, I attend a weekly HIIT
class at a local park. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. It
involves short bursts of intense exercise, followed by periods of rest. A great
benefit of HIIT is that it has been found to be one of the most efficient ways
to burn calories in a short amount of time! I highly suggest giving it a
go if you want to exercise but don’t have much time.
Gym at home (3 - 5 times a week)
I have a specialised gym routine, that is personalised for my body and
fitness goals. It involves arms, abs and leg exercises, using a variety of home
gym equipment. A full workout takes approximately 45mins - 1hour.
What I have at home:
· Weights – 2 x 1kg, 2
x 2kg, 3 x 3kg, 2 x 4.5kg
· Barbell
· Medicine ball - 3kg
· Thera Band - for resistant training
· Glute loop
· Treadmill (warm up)
· Vibration machine
(warm down)
Dance / movement exercises (4 - 6 times a week)
I love to dance! Not only is fun, but it is a great for your overall fitness.
I use a high energy dance routine that involves a lot of arm and leg movements.
Using dance as a tool for your fitness is great because it doesn’t feel like
you are exercising since you are having so much fun. So blast one of your fav songs
and give it a go! My recommendation for a great dance song is Cheap Thrills by
Sia.
Yoga (1 - 2 times a week)
And don't forget about yoga! Not only is yoga good for your
spiritual health, but it is amazing for your physical health too. A typical
yoga session usually lasts up to an hour, and involves a variety of benefits
such as improved balance, cardio and increased muscle strength and tone. So if
you are looking for a fitness activity that involves both spiritual and physical
health, yoga is for you!
I hope this gives you some ideas of ways you can work out effectively,
while having fun!
Jamie.
